News > Lake Eola Gathers Orlando Highrises

Lake Eola is a 23 acre shallow lake with a multi-million dollar lighted fountain in the center, located right in the heart of downtown Orlando. The original lake and park was donated by wealthy resident, Jacob Summerlin, in the 1880s to be the city's central recreation space and community park.

Since that time, more acreage has been added to the original Summerlin parcel. Lake Eola is now completely surrounded by a tree-lined, landscaped park and walking trail. The 900 seat Disney Amphitheater rests on the west side of the park and hosts many concerts, Shakespeare in the Park and a classic summer film series known as MoviEola. The lake is a popular gathering place for swans, ducks and other water fowl who like to swim in the Florida sunshine. Swan paddle-boats are available for rent, there's a beautiful Chinese Pagoda in the park, an international food court and The Relax Grill restaurant down by the water.

With the most recent land acquisition, the park lands around Lake Eola are now up to 17 acres. Large shade trees and colorful flowerbeds make the grounds extra inviting. An additional 4,000 square feet of paved area and some historic brick walkways were also added bringing the total size of the lake and park up to 47 acres.

The spectacular Linten E. Allen Memorial Fountain in the center of the lake is The City Beautiful's unofficial symbol and is named after the local banker who pushed for upgrading the original Lake Eola fountain, which was installed in 1902. The memorial fountain is said to have been inspired by the fountains of Europe. It was struck by lightning in 2009 and upgraded even further to its present light show capability.

With all these attractions, it's no wonder Orlando high rises are gathering around Lake Eola. In addition to its recreational value and beauty, this is a destination spot in the central business district and a hive of communal activities. Art festivals, fireworks displays and bike races, to name a few. The Orlando Farmer's Market is here every Sunday too.

The high rise condos around Lake Eola are all within walking distance to the lake and park and its amenities. They compete for lakefront views, so individual  residences with Lake Eola views are somewhat limited, and therefore in demand.

One of the best downtown condo towers in Orlando with lake views is, as its name trumpets, Vue at Lake Eola. This fortunately located contemporary high rise was built in 2007 and sits on the tree-shaded north west corner of the lake with unobstructed south and east lake views.

This curvy modern glass structure was built in 2001 and reflects the flowing nature of the water. This is a large community of 233 units. Residents share a street level courtyard area, pool and fitness center. Private gardens are also on the property.

The individual condos at Waverley on Lake Eola are mostly 1-2 bedroom flats but there are some duplexes and one penthouse.
